To get my fire extinguisher I went to one of those web sites that cater to racers. Can't remember the name but those guys have some really good fire protection stuff. It has some kind of chemical and doesn't leave that residue like the dry powder ones.

I will look into that never heard of it but willing to learn thanks. This one might make a mess but get the job done for now.

I'll try and find out where I got the thing at or at least find out what the extinguishing agent is. I know it's not CO2. Meant to do it today but got busy.

I found one on ebay. A little pricy but no residue. I didn't give this much for mine but you have an idea what to look for.

I have one mounted right beside me in my Argo, was thinking about getting another for a passenger, it would be the worst day ever if I watched my baby burn

                Dozer Larry,

According to the listing that is a halon extinguisher. Really good stuff, but a little unfriendly to the environment. I didn't know they still made them. Halon was outlawed for industrial fire protection in the 90's. I am all for the stuff if it saves life and limb...not to mention expensive equipment! Good find!

Good research on your part there! I checked it out and discovered that present stocks can be used but no more will be made. There is a replacement. I would think that a fire would be harder on the environment than a little extinguisher juice.

I couldn't agree more. A little shot of halon would be pretty minor compared to burning all of that plastic and rubber. Either way, the halon extinguisher is a small-priced insurance policy that we all hope we never have to use. It sure will be nice to have when it is needed.

I agree. I hope to donate mine to the Smithsonian one day-still full.

If running dry powder extinguisher make sure it is maintained properly or it may not function correctly when needed. Any dry powered extinguisher if mounted on a vehicle can have the powder become compacted from the bouncing around. You should probably be giving your extinguishers a good shakeup before every ride to ensure that the powder has not compacted, this way if you need to use it, you will have a extinguisher that performs as expected.
