  • Controversial Chain Thread

    Best chains, worst chains.
My question is, using a cheaper metal chain to replace chains more often and not ruin your sprockets, or use the best chain that stretches less,
Type of chain lube, dry or wet, wax or oil,
Oil or graphite or maybe even white lithium grease.

What is the best for preserving your precious overpriced sprockets?

MHO is money spent on quality chain like Tsubaki is money well spent. The Argo chains are not O-ring sealed like 520-O chains, I prefer to keep them well lubed with a high viscosity chain oil. I've been using Luccas chain oil for the last while and really like it a lot. It clings to everything, yet still has a low enough viscosity to seep everywhere it needs to be. If your chains get dirty with mud and grime, be sure to scrub them clean and relube often. Oil is cheap and easy to apply, replacing parts is time consuming and expensive. worn and stretched chains will make short work of ruining any sprokects they travel over.

See that's what I'm wondering. Wet lube may lubricate better than dry, but sand sticks to it. Wouldn't oil sticking to the chains grind on your sprockets more so than a dry lube?

A motocross buddy of mine have been doing circles about this.

Use a wet lube. It will keep them from rusting. Amphibs see way more water than sand as you've already experienced.
What it lacks in ground clearance it makes up for with traction.

I play in the sandhills. I use Dupont Teflon Chain Saver from Walmart. It lubes well, has rust inhibitors, and sand does not stick to it.
