I have a hydro static trans I used on a previous project. Can this be used in a 6x6 build?
Where can I find info on drivelines and homemade 6x6's?

          Yes
I'm not looking for speed, just steep slope climbing and tree climbing.

Yes it could work but the results that you are looking for might not be the best fit for lawnmower hydro drives. Are you planing to have all 6 wheels be driven and operate like a skid steer for turning?

                Yes
I thought the low CG would be a benefit. Your suggestions?

                    Drive ratio

My Hydro-Gear has a 19.2: 1 gear ratio. With 18" diameter tires the top speed would be 8 mph if used as direct drive (1:1). Is there any reason this shouldn't work?

I would place an oil cooler for each side in the hydraulic lines, as these things heat up quickly when being worked. It should work just fine, and if that speed doesn't bother you as not fast enough, you should be ok. Build it.
