  • What's in your toolbox?

I'm putting together a tool box for the max here is what im planning on bringing: 130 link 530 o-ring chain, two spare master links, tools to change chains, roll of electrical tape, Two crescent wrenches for adjusting tensioners, paper towels, tire plugs\tools

  • #2
I have a common spare chain made up with with several master links in it, I can use it full length for my longest chain or remove the section I need.
    Bicycle pump
    tire plugs
various screw drivers & wrencehs, pliers, wire cutters etc
1/2" ratchet, extension and socket to remove tires
    a pry bar
    a paddle
    pruning saw
    zip ties
    bailing wire
    duck tape
    2 new spark plugs
    latex gloves
    valve stem and cores
    spare drive belt
    spare alternator belt
    ratchet strap
    50' winch line extension
    winch anchor

LOL, I think that's about it I do not pack absolutley everything unless I'm planning on travelling somewhere where help may be out of reach but I do keep 90% of that gear packed under the back seat. If it's just a short trip I leave the spare parts, tire pump and winch anchor behind but always have my tools.

Here's a few things I carry in the winter. Long handled shovel along side the seat, ice anchor to winch from, tire pump, ice auger, and a storage box in the engine bay with most of the stuff already mentioned with the addition of fuses, fuel pump, leatherman tool and fishing line to tie the throttle half open when the throttle cable breaks and I'm two miles from shore with the fish house in tow lol.

What it lacks in ground clearance it makes up for with traction.

Although lots of these tools are generic to us all I always enjoy reading about the things that people in different parts of the country carry.

I tell you what I wish I had after last weekend: a small socket set and wrench set! taking a carb apart while out in the swamp was terrible!

This was a list I wrote up a long time ago, it is by no means "All Inclusive", and over time it had been slightly modified. Keep in mind that I often ride alone, and could be up to 15 or 20 miles from the nearest road.
Some of the things I carry...........

You might want to pull up a chair
Pretty much every tool needed to work on the machine. (Any time I work on the machine, I try to use only the tools I carry with me). They take a suprisingly small amout of room ( I use a "Dewalt" 18v Cordless drill box, with deviders removed). Fits in the hollow in the front floorboards PERFECTLY.

Spare outer Bearing housing W/ seals, Spare nuts
                  Outer bearing (Idler shaft brng)
Most springs and little conecting rods for the carb/throttle linkages
Little bushing under the throttle linkage (Droped one of those before)
                  Mechanics magnet and mirror
                  Pushrod
                  Master links
A bit of each kind of chain
                  Chain Breaker

I know there is some more stuff in there, but can't think of it right now.
I carry alot of stuff (alot of it is in a kit, that I can put in/take out easily), but I access some pretty romote places, cell coverage is poor at best, and I am often alone.

As a general rule of thumb "If you have it with you, you won't need it"

IF YOU HAVE IT WITH YOU, YOU PROBABLY WON"T NEED IT

I've got to admit, you're covered for everything but war. Oh wait, I see a rifle and ammo on the list. You now have it ALL covered.
