OK, I know what everybody's going to be dying to say before you even say it, you're going to say "don't do that, it's not a good idea, if it's already stretched it's already too far gone etc. etc. " but I'm looking for personal experience, have any of you ever had a double chain, used in the older Argo's Break in use? I read somewhere that you could knock one link out of the chain if it was stretched, and everybody always says it's not a good idea etc. I don't think I could get my chain back together if I took out a whole link but if I put in a "half link" I think it would fit. Now I know theoretically it could snap but have any of you actually had it happen to you ? These double chains look so strong to me in comparison to the single chains that are used on later models , I just can't see it breaking. Am i wrong ? BTW, I know it will probably wear my sprockets out faster, but my grandfather has never changed the chains, ever. Which means my sprockets are probably already worn. im guessing...

I would not take a link out or use a half link, if the chains are that stretched the pitch has changed and your sprockets are being eaten. Even cheap chinese chain is better than rusty, worn/stretched chain. Chain is VERY easy to replace and relatively cheap considering how long it's service life is....Sprockets on the other hand are expensive and very time consuming to replace, take care of your sprockets. I have never had any chains break on me in any chain driven vehicle I have owned (dirt bikes, Argo, Max, quads, my bobcat is even chain drive) and D-50 chain is pretty darn strong stuff but **** happens and they can break. The only chain I've ever personally broken myself was on my BMX bike when I was 10 or 12 lol. Take a look at the teeth of the sprockets from the side, are the points sharp? Are the valleys between the teeth symetrical or hogged out on the forward driven surface? They start to look like a breaking wave vs a nice U shape after they have substatial wear. If the sprockets are already toast then you really cannot do any more harm to them, proceed as you and your budget see fit. I wouldn't hesitate to buy/run good condition used sprockets either, but get new chains to go with them when the time comes to replace them.

Thanks Steve, This is a pic of one of my back sprockets, i was going to take pics of all of them untill i realized they all look just about the same... I dont know, do you guys think they look like they may be ok ?
Thanks , Kris.
Edit: also, i cant see a single master link in any of my chains... Did the factory chains come with masters ? Am i losing it Or should i look again before my after work scotch ?Last edited by Kris W; 06-03-2016, 10:31 AM."I've yet to encounter a problem that cannot be solved with the right mixture of whiskey and weaponry"

On my phone the sprocket looks ok. I install half links as short term fix. To see if a half link will fit pull the chain with chain pliers by skiping one roller. If you can pull the two links together it can be done. They need to be really loose before a half link will fit. I agree that any type of new chain is better than installing half links but $$$ is the driving force.
PS I make my chain tools with long nose vice grips. You get close to 2" of movement at the tips of the jaws. I grind a rounded notch in the tips for the chain rollers and weld a cross bar on the adjusting screw. Better than any factory chain puller I've ever used.
