  • PVC axle guards

Hey guys, first post... Been creeping the site for a while and appreciating the experiences you have shared.

Water levels have been low in Southern Ontario this summer so we've been struggling to get to our duck hunting Marsh because we have to go deeper into the marsh than we've ever gone. The Argo has been struggling as low water had made under water dirt mounds have become machine trapping islands w sheer unclimbable edges. *thank God for the winch*

However, low water has also encouraged plan growth and it's been wrapping the axles HARD. It nearly stops the machine, and saps our power as well as making control difficult.

I used the pvc axle guard learned here axle weed guards - Amphibious ATV Pictures (thank you). And went in again.. While it improved, and kept the front axles clean, the rear was just as bad as before. I think it's from the rear digging in during climb outs.

II think the issue is weeds grabbing the outer bearing and cinching around the axles. Has anyone designed a bearing guard?

    Thanks guys

    Sammo

@rockdoctor07 and I have chatted about this on youtube

Welcome to the forum. I hope someone will chime in with some different methods of protecting the axles/bearings for you but the ones you posted are the only style that I recall ever seeing. What machine do you have? It doesn't make much of a difference but I was wondering which machine/bearings you were working with. Could you transition to a larger piece of PVC at the bearing itself?

before I put the pvc guard on my max it would take on vegetation so thick it would almost stop the machine and be a pain to clean off it would be wound so tight between tub and tires, but after putting pvc on it still picks up weeds but not even close to what it did before and its 100 time easier to clean when I am thru riding because it doesn't wrap so tight

Thanks guys, yes same here. My Vanguard II loses almost or maybe more than half of its 16 thundering horses after a few hours of bushwacking these weeds. Currently I am running 2" ABS around the axles. I cut them at 5.5" and that leaves about a 1/4" gap. I guess I could cut them 1/4" longer, or try a conduit big enuf to cover the grease nipple that seems to be where the weeds are anchoring their cinch. The ball of hell that comes off the rear axles is about the size of a volleyball. I've attached some pics for reference
