that's a mistake, the hole should have been made bigger so the clutch would pass through it.

To give the oil somewhere to go when the belt breaks and takes out the filter adapter

I'll have to pull the picture up of someone selling a Coot who cut a giant foot by foot square out of the front tub (starting a few inches from the floor) and placed a grate over it like a big air intake for the engine.
              In description "Amphibious"

My first Scrambler had about a gazillion pop rivets through the floor holding the skid plate on, half of them had fallen out. Turn a light on in the tub at night, on the ground under the machine looked like the milky way. "I grantee it floats" said the guy I bought it from.

You know if you toss a car in the ocean it floats for a good minuet before going under. I image that is more than some of AATVs I've seen for sale.

              Regarding the original question.
I'd prefer a working machine. I don't really care whats been done to it, just needs to work.

Too often when you see a machine for sale decked out with mods it's because the owner would rather spend time on useless eye candy than fixing real issues.

After the cluster I bought and rebuilt, along with the unmolested donor, I'd take neglected over cobbed anyday
