Hey Guys - I've enjoyed reading your posts. Been wanting an amphib for the marshes I duck hunt for about 50yrs or so. Tried to buy Buggymans Avenger but he didn't want to give it away and I was broke from a scam, the real reason for my post, so it didn't work out. Regardless, he gave me alot of advice and I really appreciated it; great guy. I did buy a "97" Bigfoot off of ebay that I think is in pretty good shape. Has about 203 hrs on it, decent tires, new clutch, new rear bearings and tensioners, needs a transmission output shaft bearing???, but for overall at $3050 it was something I could afford and I think it will be a good starter. But back to the scams. Now that I have had a little experience they are easy for me as I am sure they are for you to recognize. For example there is an immaculate low hour 2004 Avenger being advertised for $3,650. Now right now we all know that is BS. Of course if you look into it it is stored in a warehouse, monygram transactions, 10 day inspection, etc, etc, you know the story. The last one was Hotwheels transactions; got me. This one is Autotraders. How do we report these and get them off the web. PS - any advice about bearings on transmission output shafts? Also, salt water marshes - I know was, wash, wash,,,,, any other suggestions?

When I was little I used to watch a show on TV that used 6x6's in one of their obstacles. I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen and have always wanted one. About 3 years ago I showed up to my uncles for a visit, and there sat an Argo 8x8. Of course I got to finally drive one. Since then I have wanted one.
Finally about 5 days ago, I bought my first one, a 1984 Argo I/C (I think). It has a Kohler KT17 series 2 with only 505 hours. Runs pretty well. Needs a new starter, battery, and my ground needs tapped and rethreaded. I think I got a pretty good deal on it. From reading the forums I am interested in putting new stronger axles, new brake pads, and getting it to run a little better. The thing is so much fun and I am excited to have one!

Hi, Everyone. My name is Craig R. Lewis. I Found your site while looking for parts for a AATV. I just bought one. Its old and kind a rough. Don't know brand, model, or year. All that is there it tires, some flat and old. T-20 tranny, partially hooked up. all chains and axles. Came with an engine, not original and just sitting in the engine compartment. Body has some cracks. Not sure what I will do with it. I'll try to post pictures so you can help me figure this thing out. Talk to you later. Craig

Greetings All
The user name is the serial number of the 8X8 I/C just purchased after years of wanting an ATV but the excuse is the usual cry of family house life etc getting in the way. Now before you 6X6 folks start giving me hell for the extra stub axle, let me explain.
Many years ago, and I mean many, I trialled a 6X6 Amphicat for the British Army unit I served in as part of a look at unique vehicles for speciallist roles. Great fun when you are 18 and given big boys toys to play with including the Big Daddy of 6x6 monkeys the Alvis Stalwart, fun at 40 mph backwards and forwards!
I also got to play in a 6X6 that featured in the British ScFi series Space 1999 as a moon buggy back in the late 80's.
Although the itch never really went away I could never justify buying anything other than two or four wheels to get me and the wife to work and back for a long time. Then along came a son who grew up and had two sons and a daughter...eureka! Grandkids. Whilst the 6x6 called from a distance I wouldn't get wife, son, his wife and three kids in one so it had to be an 8X8.
So thats it, I'm in...literally. Having read the threads for a while, now I can really join in. Thanks for having me and the extra subbies......Keep your hands inside the car at all times and scream if you want to go faster....now did I put the drain plugs in?

Hi NKB8604, welcome to the site. Hearing your story about justifying the 8x8 due to your grandkids gave me a good chuckle. That is a good excuse for an 8x8 and it is much better than mine. I tend to justify all the ATVs I build by building them so that my wife will have something to drive.
Have fun with your Argo.

Hello all !
I just joined up and have already been impressed with the level of knowledge and help provided here !
I picked up a max 4 at the end of last year, unfortunately haven't had the time or finances to tear into it yet. its got the Techumsi ohv16 which has no spark and the whole chassis has sat out in the Texas weather for who knows how long.the frame is rusty , the chains were rusty ( had to cut them off before I could move it.) It might take me a couple of years to tear it down , blast , repair and reassemble . good thing I'm patient !
Thanks all !

Hi Scott, welcome to the site. Good luck with your Max IV rebuild. The good thing about taking it slowly is that you don't get burned out trying to rush and finish a machine to ride. I go through phases where sometimes I love working on my projects every day and then sometimes they drive me crazy because I have so much else going on that I don't feel like doing any work to them. In the end I wouldn't trade it for anything but sometimes slower is better.

Hello everyone. I'm have been reading this forum as a guest for some time and enjoy all the information and knowledge available. I have a 1990 Argo magnum 8 with many upgrades. It is in the garage at the moment undergoing a major tear down and rebuild. This is the second major overhaul I have done and learn new things each step of the way. This forum has answered allot of questions. I look forward to participating in discussions and hope one day I can repay the favour.
