Hi everyone, I go by Rifter on other forums. I build things, usually a little over the top as far as fast goes. I've always been interested in 6X6 rides and a few of my other friends on another Forum (Buggies Gone Wild) found this one so I had to see what others did with these. My builds have been Golf Cart based so far. I have built carts with Sport Bike engines, Kubota Diesel engines, Briggs V twins and Opposed twins, Snow mobile engines and have one in planning with an Import front wheel drive car engine mounted in the back and have all 4 wheels steer. I also built an NHRA Altered Dragster with a Golf Cart body. So I'm going to read as much as I can about these cool 6X6 rides and see what I can come up with that's fast and safe. Thanks for letting me in this Forum.

Hello Mike and the gang. I am looking forward to meeting the group. I just purchased a 1996 Max II with a 16hp OHV V-Twin. Just got it and am looking forward to working on it. It runs but needs attention. I live in upstate NY and have 100 acres of woods with a swamp. I cut firewood and hunt. This ole' dog needs a sporty way to get back and forth from the woods. We get lots of snow here too. I am considering boosting the hp of this unit and will be checking out the forum. I am not a mechanic but have a little adventure in my blood. Please throw me a lifeline if I happen to yell. Thanks for the intro.
Tom

Hello,
Making the first move here to introduce myself here and try to find folks that are interested in the same vehicles. I am the owner of a 1970 action age Gotcha and am looking to trade tech advice and parts, in addition looking for events to attend to meet people of same interest and see other vintage vehicles.

Hello, name is Tony and I'm from Michigan. I was introduce 6x6 by a friend plumcrazy. At first glance I was thrown back in time remembering seeing these rides as a kid. Now that I was reintroduce, I'm ready to own one. So it would be great if I could start small and work my way up. Thanks

Hey JP, are you in NY or NC?
If your in NY, Tony is looking for a ride in an ARGO and a MaxIV in upstate NY.
He is trying to decide what suits him and his family the best.
Needs to get 4 people in whatever he buys. The trouble with retirement is.... I never get a day off !!!!

Hi Gang,
I've been a fan of Argos since the early 70's British kids TV show "Banana Splits" I almost bought one yrs ago, but the few I could find within relatively easy traveling distance looked too mechanically challenging, so I got a Yamaha Kodiak instead.
Being a Land Rover fan my usual off road vehicle is an old 90, it's had a complete nut n bolt rebuild, so I'm a glutton for mechanical punishment already!
One of the lads in the Northants 4x4 response team saw an old 8x8 Magnum on ebay and was looking for someone to chip in with him, so I bit the bullet, and we picked her up yesterday!
After a few hairy moments getting off the trailer, a few hours fettling the carb and looking under her skirts, we've made a mental list of the issues we need to sort out before we can have a proper play! The list so far includes new chain tensioners (4 missing, one bent), new adjustable plunger pins for the brakes (current ones bodged with a mig welder) new bungs, and filters/service for the engine, which is running very well for a 20yo motor. The hulls need new rivets all round (seriously bodged atm, wrong rivets, no washers etc.). Most of the chains look OK, but I'm sure we'll find issues down there too. The windscreen/frame up top will probably be coming off, even McGuyver would not be proud of it
At least the chassis is sound (is that sheet steel welded to the rails really necessary?)! Tyres are OK, and all the wheel bearings and seals have been changed recently.
Thanks for collating all the manuals, they've been an invaluable source of info!
Let the fun commence!
Pete

First time 6x6 owner
Hello Everyone,
I have been watching your videos on youtube for some time, you all have inspired me to shop for a used 6x6. I looked at quite a few on the web, all looked driven hard and put away wet with a lot of rust everywhere. Saw a Max II 50 miles away on Craigs List, never used Craigs List before, I was very interested when he said no rust, I drove out to see it in NY. He was mostly right, very little rust, I was impressed and bought it, picked it up a couple of days later. It has quite a few issues though, been sitting a long time, in a heated garage though. The owner thought it was a 1998, but looking at your s/n list it is a 1993. Bummer on no bearings, bushings instead, still a very nice machine. I'm also inspired by seeing many older 6x6s here too! Still trying to get the engine running well, chains all adjusted now, problems getting it to move well, does not want to steer or go much. Some electrical issues too. My immediate concern is to keep it in nice rust free condition while being stored outside under a tarp. Any no rust thoughts out there? Hope to get many issues resolved as I dig more into your great website. I also look forward to getting to know you nice people more while learning about 6x6s and Max IIs. Thank you!
