The new parts were much beefier and have caused no problem. I will attach the brake part numbers. I ordered them from Richard at Richards Relics, had them sent up here to British Columbia.
    Hope these numbers help!!
Many thanks, runamuk. I'll check it out.

                      • Hustler Rebuild

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site. I picked up an old Hustler the beginning of the month a few bucks shy of $300. I've been spending all month rebuilding the thing, Kohler 16hp motor is done, I'm just about finished with the T20 rebuild, have cleaned and repainted the frame and axles, swapped out the driven sprockets for larger diameter ones (as per some posts here) and on it goes. Just put all new wheel bearings in it and should have all the axles back in this weekend. This has been quite a project, testing my mechanical and welding skills, pretty cool, hope to have it up and running in the next week. Kicking around using idler sprockets in place of the original tensioners and am looking at installing brake calipers and cylinders from a moped to give me some braking options for downhill travel. Wanted to thank everyone here for the excellent posts and ideas, found the T20 rebuild and the Salsbury cluth rebuild threads priceless, thanks guys for all the hard work.

A few heads ups for anyone who may doing similar rebuilds, the two main bearings in the T20 transmission have the same id and od as standard S207 bearings but will not work, the S207 bearing is 17mm wide while the original bearing in the T20 is 15mm wide. If you use the 17mm bearing the indentation in the casing for the ring that retains the bearing is covered by the bearing and you can have to find a new way to retain the bearing. The good news is that the original 15mm wide bearings are available from Recreative Industries. Buffalo bearings is an excellent source for the wheel bearings and real friendly and knowledgeable, I found that most of the flanges on my hustler were too small for the inner axle bearings and I had to buy new ones, they are readily available from your local bearing dealer and are pretty cheap at less than $3 a pair. Surplus Center was a good find from this site and a good, fast supplier of my sprockets.

One of the major headaches I had as well as others on this site that have rebuilt these things is removing the sprockets from the axle. Most of mine were solidly rusted together and no amount of heating with an acetlyene torch and penetrating fluid made them budge. I found the easiest and quickest thing to do was grind away the weld using a cut off wheel on my 7" grinder. I was able to salvage the sprockets I wanted to keep this way and remove the axle from the frame, I then used the same set up to cut the sleeve the sprocket was welded to off of the shaft, also worked great for getting the stuck bearing races off. I bought steel tubing from a local supplier to replace the sleeves and welded the sprockets to them being careful to get them square and in the correct spot. I then used a brake cylinder hone to hone out the id so that the sleeve would slid on the old axles. This had to be done since the od of the axle and the id of the tubing were the same. One last item, if you require larger flanges for the inner wheel bearings you may need to enlarge the slots in the frame that retain the carriage bolts. You can do this with a hand file but it going to take quite some time and there really isn't a lot of room to work, a 4" angle grinder will do it fast and accurate if you have one. I didn't but I do have one of those roto rip contraptions, they make a cut off wheel for it and this worked well for me at this task as well as working in other tight spots. Guess what I'm saying is that on one of these rebuild projects a ginder is pretty indespesible.

Hope these hints help someone else as much as the items I read here have helped me. Looking forward to getting this beast up and running in time for hunting season. I intend to give it a work out hunting deer, duck and since I live in Texas, pigs. Thanks all!

                              • New to it all

Hey folks, brand new to the 6x6 world. Been riding quads for years, always wanted a 6x6, got to ride in one as a kid. An add caught my eye on craigslist and suddenly I'm deep in it. Bought an Attex 400 Chief and a 500 Superchief. The 400 runs and drives but needs a bunch of work and the 500 is a basket case. I have tons of questions, the good news is I've been finding most of the answers on here, so thanks. First I need to figure out how to get some decent wheels and tires on this thing. It has bald 3 bolt balloons on it now. It came with some 5 bolt addapters but I dont know what wheels fit?? Most quad wheels seem to be 4 bolt.
