Wondering how much of our machines abilities are due to tires and the
number of tires vs the basic machanics, all live axles.
How would your machine work with bald tires . How about 2 or 4 tires
Missing. I know tires are very important in the water and mud but elsewhere?

I guess it depends on the case. I've seen a few people run 4 tires, delete the centers.
Turning would be harder because the weight and added friction.

I know my Max ii was worthless when I left one bolt out of a sprocket, I could hardly drive that side till I let the air out so the weight could sit on my good tires.

These machines have no suspension so the tires help bridge gaps and give that hovercraft feel over ruts and holes. Less tires more tipping into stuff. Granted Terra jet works ok like this.

But really all those tires mostly reduce ground pressure. If a 6/8 wheeler couldn’t “float” on top of most terrain it would run out of its limited ground clearance very quickly.
