friends, just curious... the o rings on o ring chain are suppose to keep out dirt, grit etc. from the pins. the pins must be prelubed during mfg. right ? once that lube dries up, how does spraying chain lube get into the pins past the o rings ? thanks, johnboy va.

John I do not know the answer you seek, however I firmly believe in keeping a chain wet. In the case of the oring chain, if nothing else you would be keeping the orings themselves wet deterring deterioration of said orings allowing contaminants into the rollers once the orings break down. Eventually something will get past the orings, why not let it be lubricant.sigpic
My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.
Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

argojim, i read up on diamond co.s o ring chain. does'nt say much about lubing it..but your idea makes sense. if all it does it keep the o rings in good shape. it does need to be a lube that says o.k. for o ring chain. also read up on tsubaki lube free chain. the metal is oil impregnated.. no need for lube, but very costly. much less stretch and operating life. j.b.

Champions Choice, the foaming lube that I use, says it also penetrates. And I tend to think those 'O' rings don't make a hermetic seal to end all seals. They might keep out sand and bits of debris but a penetrating lubricant will get through.
