The first time I lubed my chain after bringing my Frontier home I used a generic chain lube from the local hardware store, my dealer was closed that day and I was heading for a ride. Now I got a good non-slinging chain wax that I want to apply to all my chains. What is the best way to clean off the old lube so I can start fresh with the new one?? Spray everything with Simple Green degreaser and a scrub with a brush?? Any time saving or less messy tips to share? thanks.

This might sound odd, but I've always used chainsaw bar and chain oil on any chain. (From bicycles to garage door openers, to of course my 6x6) It has good penetration capabilities, as well as adhesion under high rpms or temperatures. And you really don't have to "SOAK" the chain down. As far as cleaning a chain goes. I find it best to remove and agitate in (AUTO PAINT) enamal reducer. About $15.00 a gallon. It's worth the time and little extra effort in the long run. It's all just nuts and bolts.

Took evil8x8 tips today and sprayed all my chains with engine cleaner, got and old floorbrush and scrub the chains, push the Argo a bit, scrub more, push a bit more, scrub some more, etc... Until all the chains were done.
Got the front tires on some blocks, sprayed everything with the garden hose and let it drain. Sucked the rest with the Shopvac. It did a really good job, even the bottom of the tub looks like new.Got the air hose to blow most of the water off and I'll let it dry overnight.
Tomorrow I'll re-spray all the chains with the non-flinging chain wax that I got from my dealer.
