  • Ice Shanty Distance Back

Fellow aatv owners, I have a max IV and a max II, plan on using them for the first time ice fishing this season. My question for those of you who also ice fish, I plan on pulling a two man flip shanty and was wondering if with tracks on the aatv how far back should I have the shanty while in tow? Do any of you have mud flaps on your machine? Any help or pictures are deeply appreciated. Thanks

Moldman I pull my quad and quad trailer into my hunting area so I only have to make one trip in its 16 km and I made my hitch for my Max iv so I can turn 90 degrees so basically it should be about 48 inches back from the ball on the Max I to run tracks.

I agree with Madtrapper. While we don't get cold enough here in Texas for ice fishing, I do have a lot of experience towing stuff behind an aatv including utility trailers, other atvs, wood splitters, etc. The 48" distance allows for plenty of maneuver room, any longer than that and your ability to turn tightly greatly increases, however if you are only concerned about travelling over a frozen lake, you could increase that distance. I know most guys up north typically travel some distance through the woods before you make it to the lake, so I would just go with 48" back from the ball to give you the best all around tow.
