  • My Max 4 will not go in reverse

I understand that these machines can be hard to get in reverse. When I first got it I could rock it around and make it go in reverse. I haven't been able to get reverse in months. I can rock it and the right side will try to go ,but I think the left side isn't engaging. I've had the shift pins out before and they have no wear at all. Could this be an adjustment issue somewhere. Reverse sure is Handy sometimes and I sure would love to get it back. Thanks.

Check the 2 retaining plates over the shifters, often times the can bend upward allowing the shifter to cock instead of spin. 2 people are best on a iv to check this. Also lubricated and linkage pivot points.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

The Max4 with that complicated linkage has always been an issue, even the first one I drove back several decades ago, was hard to get into reverse. Jim makes some good points, I've found if you also pull the laterals back using one arm across both laterals, and then use the other hand to shift, it works a lot better than as is.
Maybe if the new company ever gets production kicked off that they can fix this perpetual issue and set the drivetrain up more like the setup on a Max2.

I finally got it the rod on the right side shifter was hooked u backwards, and it was bent. Reverse works but can't hardly make it go in reverse.is there an adjustment that I
Will allow the pin to be pushed just a little more
