Does anyone have the real scoop on what is the best winch rope? Im just using mine to winch my argo into the back of the pickup. Best product /Prices . And does anyone have a ballpark guess on what the pull ( pounds ) would be on winching a 1200 pound argo into the back of a pickup? ( Just curious) Probably about a 30 degree angle. Thanks

In the truck world we always go for double the gross vehicle weight for winch and line strength. I recently switched to synthetic line over steel cable, much lighter and not so dangerous if it breaks. Amsteel blue 3/8" is what you would be looking for. If there is a marina close to you they sell it the cheapest since mariners have been using the stuff for years. Stick to about 50' since anymore would be to much on the spool and you get your best pull strength early on. Use strops to bridge any more distance.
No issue on the 30 degree other than to make sure you put a piece of wood down or something so the rope does not cut on the trailer edge or truck edge.
And always keep bystanders well back.

Not sure but unless his winch is pulling 12,000 lbs I do not think 3/8 line is needed nor would a small atv winch hold 50' of 3/8" line

      Try 3/16" perhaps....look here

If you're gonna use cable, 3/16 should be more-than-adiquate. Remember, you are pulling "ROLLING WEIGHT". 1200lbs rolling weight is somewhere around 200-300lbs force max (On flat land). 1200lbs "DEAD WEIGHT' (Basically dragging a 1200 lb rock) is just that, 1200 lbs + ground resistance!
It's all just nuts and bolts.

Yip, the 3/16 was what was suggested for my 4000 lb. winch. So thats what I ordered yesterday. The 1200 lb. load at a 30 degree angle figured up at roughly 600lb. pulling weight. Probably a little more with the resistance of the ramps. That 3/16 synthetic rope has a break strength of about 7500 to 8500 lbs. depending on who ya talk to. The synthetic just sounds like it is alot easier to work with than the steel. 50 ft. was $41.00 delivered ...on ebay store.
