  • How heavy are your plows?

I have been trying to find a cheaper route to the $1000.00 argo plow setup. Couar was nice enough to hook me up with some plow mount diagrams and I think I will be able to make those just fine. I have been searching craigslist for a light duty 6 or 7 foot plow, but most of them are 500 pounds or heavier. I just cant imagine the machine would handle 500 pounds well (and still cant figure out even how a 7 foot piece of metal weighs that much).

Anyways, those of you with plows, how much do you estimate they weigh? Thanks.

      snow blade

with all the crap I have on mine it is right close to 250lbs it is a six foot blade it is home built they have one similer to it at home depo it was 6ft and sold for 500dollars it did look lighter then mine I had to up grade my winch to a 4000lbs how ever not because of the blade but because i was pulling out some trees and insted of letting the old winch cool down i worked it to death and burnt it up anyway that is why i got a new winch

Well, Ideally I was looking for the "light duty" plows often found on like a jeep wrangler and I even think one company makes them for like an S10 or smaller truck. I would guess those to weigh 2 or 300 pounds, maybe less heck some of them are made out of plastic. Anyways, all Ive really been able to find are definately heavy duty plows and I just don't think they are going to work. Well Thanks for the estimates guys.

derekhonda; I would say my setup goes about 200-250 lbs, tops. Blade and pivot alone, about 150 lbs. You said you're checking craigslist. search atv plow, or riding mower plow. they are lighter than what you've been finding. Try the same w/ebay. I got mine from craigslist (It's a cityslicker) and only paid 250 for it. It is a 6ft made for a polaris, but i made my own carriage. (Pictures in gallery. search the word plow, then look for t-boss) Anyway, I went to the distributors web site and found you can get a new setup for around 500 bucks. ( Tusk home page ) Now is the time of year that anything on the lists is gonna be snatched up quick. When I checked about months ago, alot were out of stock. Hope that helps.
It's all just nuts and bolts.

            Check out the Moose plows

Moose Utility Division - Product Catalog

If I would have not lucked out and found a complete factory plow for real cheap, I had considered building my own brackets and using the Moose A-frame and blade.

argo Hunter, that is hilarious that you posted that. I just found out about those wednesday morning and stopped by a dealer after work. I think the 72" plow for 299 sounds like a good deal, but I am not all sure what it comes with. It comes with the blade, and the swivel, and the springs....and that is it correct? I will need to build my own push tubes and still make the brackets, correct?

Still, for 299, that aint bad.

That is correct. You will need to fab up your own mounts to fit the Argo. Moose makes the blades to fit the 4x4 atvs and not to fit an Argo or Max. The County plow is interesting if you are going to roll that snow down a long driveway but a regular blade would work just fine. The wider blade is probably the way to go. My opinion but I would not bother with the smaller tractor blades for a lot of reasons.

Would a 6 ft. blade be wide enough. With the super tracks on my argo it is wider than that I think. But then if it's much wider would the argo push that amount of snow? say if it was a 7 ft. plow?

How about s smaller Snoway Units? They have Lexan mould boards and everything is contained on the frame.

                      Hi,
I would be interested in selling my 2001 Argo Plow. I used it on my 2001 Argo Bigfoot for years. I sold the Argo last year and still have the plow. It is in very good shape and I set it up for power angle. If you are interested let me know. I am asking $500.00 I live near Shipshewana IN 46565. If you live to far I can ship it via Yellow freight pretty cheep.
