  • Traversing Slopes

    Hi Members of the Forum

A quick question to those who have used their 6*6 traversing slopes, how stable are these machines (Max IV) before they get to the point of roll over, i suspect as they have a very low center of gravity they should be more stable than they feel when driving across a steep slope.

    Any experiances/advice ?

    Thank you

    Neil

hey friend ... i think your right , they are more stable than they feel on a traverse slope. even more stable with tracks . there have been discussions on here about how steep a hill you can climb , but have'nt seen much about traversing . i'm sure alot depends on the type of terrain . i'm thinking a 45 degree would be possible ? let's see what anyone else says. i know i've been on some where i felt i would fall out before the machine would roll over . johnboy va.

Coming down a steep hill a little to fast toward the end about 300ft left on hill /going a little to fast and to much air in tires' It started bucking was afraid to hit the band brakes to hard bumped them slowly and set a bronco into high motion no seat belt in my attex. Could not keep my butt planted on the seat as soon as my butt contacted the seat it was flying in the air. I planted my feet as high as could get them on the front tub of the attex and made it thru.
My friend was following me down the hill said rear of attex was bouncing 18" to 24" off the ground and was riding on front wheels a few bounces. thank god i finally pinned the sticks in. I had them come out once.

Do a test in the driveway with a jack or better yet an engine hoist. Start lifting one side of the machine up and every so often see how easy it seems to tip it the rest of the way. Stick an angle gauge on the dash so you know where the tipping point is. And I do also agree that its very deceiving when your actually in the seat. Mostly cause your in a flat bench seat, and unlike a truck, jeep, or 4-wheeler, you don't have anything solid to really hold on to and brace yourself (steering wheel or handle bars) with only having 2 joy sticks (maybe argo is better in this case?).

Typically I find that many people won’t take the machines anywhere near the limit of capabilities. If you are willing to push it these machines can do an absolutely amazing things 45 is nothing for a max IV there is a YouTube video of one side hilling a max IV at 45 degrees or better as well
          1996 MAX IV ,KUBOTA DIESEL
          MAX II 30HP Bandolero

This is when I installed seat belts and suspension seats.
use the foot brake and let the clutch slow you on steep downhill.
I have been well over 45 degree side slopes.
