I have maxiv 1991 b& s vanguard 16 hp doesn't charge all the time.. will charge then while I am riding it will return to zero. Anmy input would help.

an amp meter shows the difference between battery voltage, and charging or discharging. if there is no difference (IE battery is fully charged) then it will read zero. a good check is to put a volt meter on the battery with the machine shut off. should read somewhere close to 13 v. start the engine and it should drop sharply while the starter is cranking, then volts should slowly come back up. they should also be around 13.5 to 14 as you rev the engineA well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.Comment
