is the machine equipped with an amp meter or a volt meter? are you having issues with it running the battery down or just seeing no charge on the gauge?

Sometimes the amp meter has a reading then it doesn't

an amp meter shows the difference between battery voltage, and charging or discharging. if there is no difference (IE battery is fully charged) then it will read zero. a good check is to put a volt meter on the battery with the machine shut off. should read somewhere close to 13 v. start the engine and it should drop sharply while the starter is cranking, then volts should slowly come back up. they should also be around 13.5 to 14 as you rev the engine
