Newbie Ideas..... Vanguard 6x6

I have a rather rough Vanguard 6x6 that will need extensive work to resurrect...

The upper and lower bodies are pretty much unsalvageable. So I'm considering a custom body build. I would like to make something resembling a Centaur but low profile... think snowspeeder from star wars. Making the engine rear mounted with the cockpit out front. Seating the driver pretty much in the lower body rather than on it.

Any way here's my question...

Will the brake/steering drive assembly care if its predominantly span in the other direction?

Any thoughts?
