Which batteries are you guys having the best luck with? On my max I used an automotive battery but I'm thinking it's a little over kill just to start and run a couple led lights and occasionally charge my phone. I was thinking of going with the deka etx30l, always had good luck with deka batteries for tractors on farms I worked growing up and as a teenager. I considered optima also just for the capacity in winter time in case I decide to mount a plow.

That is the battery we used to start Winston Cup cars at Evernham motorsports... they will spin a briggs over just fine! I used to bring home the ones that had been in a crash and get 3-4 more years use out of them

7 years in Cup and 13 more in the truck series... Carried rear tires for the first 9 years, took a 5 year break and got forced out of retirement for another 3 years of it. Lots of good memories but glad to be doing something different now!

I understand that. That would be so cool to have those experiences though, but I do think throwing tires around and flying around rushing on a pit crew would get tiresome.

I still use a lawn mower battery, but I added a 60 amp external alternator to keep my battery charged. It has been working great for about 2 months now. I also switched out the ammeter for a voltmeter to monitor the charge.

I do have a pulley from Vegas karts I could run an alternator. I had a Chevy alternator on my max for a short period but when I bought the new clutch it needed more crankshaft so I ended up doubling up on factory charge coils and running a rectifier/regulator. That was on a Honda clone though with, I think, 3 amp charge circuits?
