Any recommendations for a budget friendly plastic welding setup? I know I will use it at least once to fix a crack in my tub but it would be nice to have around for future repairs and patches, fill screw and bolt holes etc. I have used a solder iron with luck in the past and had okay luck with a small propane torch but it's easy to mess it up more with the torch. Would you guys recommend hit air or just the solder iron kind?

I have an air welder, but seems like the soldering iron style worked a bit better. I just ordered one of these.

That's the exact kit I was looking at, I never tried the air welder style but I've used a regular soldering iron on other small plastic stuff. On my max seat floor piece I fixed some cracks with a torch and zip ties for welding rods it was a pain but it worked.

Not exactly budget, but this is what I use and have had great luck with it https://www.amazon.com/Polyvance-570...3429005&sr=8-8

I have used these in the past. The problem I have had is that it gets too hot and actually melts the handle of the tool and makes it worthless.

It's not really out of budget if it's a good tool though, buy once cry once right? I just don't want to get into a 3 to 400 dollar setup and wind up using it a handful of times.

To Scotts point above, this one seems to be very good quality and you can dial in the temp for different plastics. works great on ABS too. I literally have hundreds of hours on mine and it has never been too hot to hold on to http://www.6x6world.com/gallery/comb...f-welding.html

Sorry, my reference was to the $30 one that is on Amazon. For $189, I would expect that one to last a long time.

I might get that cheap one for just to knock this one repair out or I might try getting the tips for my soldering iron. But I agree 189 bucks I'd imagine it would last me for as long as it needs too.

I was thinking of this type for the thicker plastic and get full penetration.
