Red light on when starting

Hi all, new to Argo's, just picked up a 93 Magnum 8x8. Its in great shape, well maintained and has low hour (230). Noticed two things I'm not sure about:
1) The red light on the dash comes on when a turn the key to the on position, goes away after it starts running

2) the fan comes on for the most part when I turn the key, been a couple times where it hasn't though.

Thoughts?

Is the red light a charge indicator? or low oil pressure warning?
as long as it goes out when you start, I'd say your good.

That red light should be a low battery charger light. I have one on my Conquest and it will flicker if the idle kicks down low usually as it is warming up, but goes off when you rev it up and the alternator generates more amps. My Conquest has another red light (same style) which is a low oil pressure light.
