  • Mechanical brake pad repad or replace

So. I’ve acquired my self a beautiful 1979 8x8 Argo. She’s at least has the upgraded axles 22” tires and overall starts and runs well.

I’ve only spun her around my acreage and found that the brakes appear a little low. They also got some oil on them from me removing the accursed pulse fuel pump, not plugging off the port, in exchange for a electric pump.

Now. Do y’all reline the pads or replace. I’ve only found one website that supplies either at the moment and haven’t checked with my local dealer either as it’s a holiday. What’s y’all’s thoughts and processes. How long roughly do pads last? Do you upgrade the mechanical
Brakes to newer hydraulic. Or just start praying when they run out.

I had an older argo, 83 6x6 and decided to replace the brake pads. Almost crapped my pants when I asked the price. Around the 100 dollar mark ( I am in Canada, go figure) and this was 10 years ago. I now have 92 6x6 that I would like to upgrade to hydraulic with handlebar steering instead of lever . I haven't had to replace the pads but did minor adjustments. Maybe that is all you need. No expert by any means. To get rid of the oil, spray your pads and rotors down with brake clean. Don't be stingy. Spray them down good and problably you will get them clean. If I were going to repair what I have, I think I would try the reline route. Now that I have thought about it, it was the pads I bought and pop riveted them on. Just my opinion and my experience with the brakes.
