  • Jumping a six wheeler off a dock?

So I'm at the local lake (without the 6x6) scoping it out and in between the boat ramps is the concrete dock.

I couldn't help but wonder if any of you have tried running off a dock or ledge into the water before? If so, how slow can you "drop" into the water? I'm sure at half to full throttle it wouldn't be too bad but as I stood there I wondered how slow you could actually drop off a ledge into the water?

I just have to put the stickers on my Max and I'm legal for the lake so hopefully I can head back out there this weekend and have some fun. I don't know that I will try the dock but if I do you can be sure I will get some video

How many feet is the drop off Mike? I ran a Max IV off of a two foot drop at 3/4 throttle and it made a huge splash and worked out very well. I would be hesitant to just crawl off of a arger drop at only a few MPH.

It's probably about the same (2 feet) but the problem is that with the lack of rain that we have had, the lake is down and the water is very shallow there. Probably still enough to float but who knows. I doubt that I have the nerve to drive off slowly and test it out but I will more than likely try a high speed pass

note: "high speed" is used loosely

Jump a 6 wheeler? are you nuts.
Try this, Take a 2x4 with you and a piece of 1/2" plywood 2'x6' to make a small ramp at the end of the dock, It will help the front of the car come up when you leave the planet momentarily. You don't wanna hit the water nose first, you already did that at home. You've got to stay an the throttle untill you leave the ramp, stay on it and you'll hit the water like a shuttle landing, back wheel's first (ideal). Let off the throttle too early and your going in nose first. . We're anxiously awaiting for videos of this.

I think you should do a lot of practice runs over on the shore line first and see what happens when you hit the water at different angles. Water isn't as forgiving as it might seem.

Oh yes, the vest is a definite! Also, Whipper I guarantee I will make several practice runs first. Who knows I may not even try it

Well, I went out to the lake today. As soon as I got there I turned the video camera on and the battery was dead But I also took my regular camera which has a video recorder on it as well so I wasn't too worried about that.

I entered the lake off the boat ramp and then drove over to the beach area but after just a few minutes the engine started blowing all kinds of smoke out. After removing the air cleaner I could see all of the oil there. I checked it and it seems that I may have overfilled it before I put the engine back in. I put 2 full quarts in? I hope that's all it is.

Anyway, this is all of the video that I got today but I will be going back soon. The dock that I can jump off is a few hundred feet away so I didn't get to even try it.

I was disappointed but on a positive note, there were several people pulling out their cell phones to snap some pictures. Even the guy that watches the gate came out to see what was going on.
