  • Stuck in the pond!

I got stuck in the pond yesterday.

Cattails were wrapped (and I mean WRAPPED) around all three right axles, and I was not going anywhere. No amount of throttle, direction, rocking or pushing with a pirouge pole made a bit of difference.

I ended up having to get out and physically uproot the cattails by hand from the bottom of the pond, and then drive out and spend an hour cutting and unwrapping to get the darned things off.

Now I know what to avoid.

    Something to think about:

I learned this little trick on this site

Cut some PVC pipe to the length of your axles, from the outer brng to the hubs. Pull your axles, slide the PVC pipe onto the axle and remount the axles. The PVC pieces should be loose enough so that they will spin easily on the axles.
This will keep grass, weeds, willows, ect from wrapping around your axles when riding.

I have not actually done this to my machine yet, but have high hopes for it, and will do it when I have a chance.

I forgot who mentioned it to me, but I think it's a great idea.

Instead of going thru the hassle of removing your axles, just cut the pvc pipe in half &, using pvc cement, glue it back together!!

To go even a step further, just cut a slit lengthwise and spread one end open and slip on the axle. That way, if they happen to get packed with mud or debris, you can easily remove them and clean them.
It's all just nuts and bolts.
