Hi cris,I used a $10 heat gun from harbor freight and a piece of black plastic off of a 4wheeler fender.I heated up the crack on my max then held the piece of plastic with a pair of pliers and started at the bottom of the crack and put the heat on the plastic strip and slowly moved it upwards,The strip melted right into the crack and made a nice weld.I did the outside of the tub,Let it cool down and then i did the inside of the tub. This worked great and is really strong.sigpic

The remelting of the plastic around the metal mesh is a good idea.
I use a bostik hot glue gun. A bit more control than a torch, and you get some extra coverage.
Plastic welding is in most cases better than marine/canoe fiberglass. As the plastic atv body is flexible and patching fiberglass does not like the bend once it's set.
