sprockets splined to axle

One thing I always thought was strange was that the sprockets on my Hustlers were attached with a pin through the axle. Although I never broke an axle when I saw the splined axles with sprockets on an Argo I was amazed. Which other vehicles had or have splined axles?

Newer Max six wheelers have splined axles too. I don't remember what year they started though. '98 or '99 maybe...someone here will know.
