Marine lighting On a AATV?

I will be sure to be caught out on the water after dark in my Argo. It's in my shop getting new tires and a general going over and I'm thinking while I'm at it maybe I should be installing at least a white mooring light in the back and maybe even red and green navigation lights in the front. Do you guys think it's necessary and has anyone done it and have some pics?

In the US it's federally mandated that if you have your AATV registered as a boat and are operating at night or during other periods of low visibility you have to have at a minimum a white light. It's my understanding that navigation lights aren't required. And really for the slow speeds that we travel they would be somewhat useless. I'm not saying that they are a bad idea just that we won't be traveling fast enough for other boats to use them to tell which direction we are traveling.

Yeah, I put a bi-colored bow light on the hood of my Argo. It's only on there because I saw it on the shelf at NAPA and thought it would look pretty cool. I have it wired with a disconnect so I can unplug it when I take the hood off.

Hello , everyone its been a while , on my Conquest when I'm fishing at night I bought disposable battery running light that clamps on to my outboard motor mount and a red/green navigation light that has a big suction cup that I stick on my windshield with the windshield in the down position. It works pretty good . I really don' use it that much to make a permenate connection. I power the Argo with a 50 lb thrust Menkota electric motor and a seperate marine battery. It doesen't take a long time to run that battery down , thats the biggest draw back and another reason I don't have the lights on a big battery and use the flashlight batteries for night time on water. Don't forget you have to have your boat numbers visible on your machine also. See ya..

I agree here. Now I wouldn't just toss lights where-ever, but a bow light and stern light, both bright, and if it's a motorized waterway with watercraft, a good bright mast-light on a post right behind your seat. If there's any lights along the shore you'd be amazed how easily a light or two can get lost, and the less you move, the more you blend in. I've had a boat in the water since before I was old enough to drive a car, and one think you learn is you can't see s*** at night on the water. Now watch how many take a boat out at night and crank up to full tilt ("Log Finders" we call em on the Hudson ) I would also carry a spot-light you can wave back and forth towards any boat that seems to be getting close.
