I've found I can easily fit a P.T.O.[Power take off] to my machine and I'm wondering what is the most common and useful fitting for external implements[water pump, wood saw, generator etc]And what is the name of it?.A picture would be sweet.
not sure if the same thing that's "standard" here in the states would be in your neck of the woods. best bet might be to check with some tractor dealers around you who sell the type of implements your wanting to run. then get the proper pto for those implements

Thanks for the super quick response racerone3.By universal I mean belt, spline, flange etc which in turn connects to the implement. Most of this equipment here is U.S. sourced.I wouldn't bother with the Chinese equipment especially a water pump for fighting fires.
most of what i run into is 1-3/8", 6 Spline Yoke. a lot of new pumps and mowers are hydraulic. like i said, look into the implements and what they use for drive. if your going to fab your own drive shafts for the implements (you may need to as standard ones made for a tractor will likely not be the right lengths) you can make the machine end however you want, but the implement end will have to match whatever you are trying to run.

Yep,that's what I was after[1 3/8" 6 spline]I'm assuming male spline hanging out the back of the machine, female on the shaft to the implement. Also what stops the female from sliding off the P.T.O. male spline?
