  • Wet winch

Well I just plowed the max in some back water where the river is wet and about filled her full I guess the bank was a little steeper from where it had washed out. Well I played around a little and went to climb the hill to get out and the belt was wet and it wouldn't pull. No problem I just winch it up but the winch also took on a lot of water and would not move. So i set the brake pulled the plugs drained her down and pulled the hill with ease. Put the max in the barn pulled the battery cable and it sparked a lot telling me that something was pulling hard on the battery I guess I will find out if it broke after it dries out.

So what is the end of the story with your winch? Is is dead or alive? I have also dunked my winch on steep water entries with no ill effects...yet. The Max IV does not enter the water anywhere as nicely ans the II does.

i still dont know havent been able to ride. i have been wanting to go frog giging with the max but havent had the time. with the long weakend i should be able to get it out and tool around. i will let u know. the only real thing that worried me is that it has a wireless remote so its not hard wired.

What has probably happened is that your control relay filled up with water and is shorting out internally. Had the exact same thing happened, but my relay didn't short. It corroded and wouldn't do anything. I just saw a relay on ebay for 25 bucks.
It's all just nuts and bolts.

I have literally sank my max...had to swim down to grab the line and pull it out.(very long sad story) And my winch was fine even the controls....kinda weird that just submerging it a little would do that. I have the cheap northerntool atv winch and i've been mean to it in the water. what type of winch you running?
Adding in I've seen a winch control set up using a 3 position switch as a homemade rig. very rugged and easy to waterproof. Just an idea cant be too hard to wire up and also cheaper than 25 dollars.
The feat of sinking a max is a badge of honor.

There should be a how to article on what to do if you sink your aatv. Such as electrical, engine, winch, and tranny care after a full submerge. I think there is enough experience here to really make a decent article to guide those that do take the "swim" for the first time.
