  • What was done to your AATV this week?

I'll start us off, and this could possibly become a sticky!

I was getting tired of the same old thing, and decided to use a few parts that were lurking around my shop!
I started off the day removing the starter & replacing the solenoid! What a pain!!!

I had a few red clearance lights laying around, so I decided to add them on as tail lamps. Nothing special, just hooked them up to the headlamp switch. They are for my nephew, and his blazin fast quad, that seems to be magnetically attracted to the rear of my argo after dark!

Next I decided that I was laking enugh light for night rides. I poped these driving lights on just above the headlamps, these give me more light at a distance! Good for those old dirt roads.

I decided that with all the new lights I should upgrade to more modern lighting controls. I dug out a set of lighted water proof switches that worked fine! I had to be oh so careful when marking & cutting the holes!

I figured that while I was in a zone, and wiring up stuff like crazy to go ahead & add a master battery cut off! I ran all but the battery maintainer wire through the switch!

I gotta give thanks to my buddy for letting me try out his digital camera. My cam had an unfortunate accident while I was duck hunting this weekend!

I put those socket head hex cap screws in my sprockets last night(instead of set screws) and they rocked!

I finished the general maintenance of my machine on Sunday. Lubed and adjusted the chains and tightened the belt by lifting the engine. I bought body shims from Harbor Freight and they worked great for shimming the engine for belt tension.
I also had some loose set screw/ machine screws on the sprockets. Even with the lock nuts, they come loose so keep and eye on them.

This weeks project is an engine cover extension to cover the air cleaner and muffler since the factory didn't.

I'm also contemplating a fan to blow heat from the engine through the sides of the body cavity to the front of my machine for some heat this winter.

I experimented with cylinder head temperatures near, and slightly exceeding, the melting point of aluminum.

Lance, if you don't have a fan already.. I use a Rule (bilge pump people). Replaced my argo fan (8 amps) with the rule (3.5 amps) It's a fan type not a squirrel cage fan. Boater's World or look at them online.

I'm still in the contemplation stage. I'll take a look at them. I noticed in the Max II I drove, the heat from the engine gets blown to the front via the cavity on the sides of the machine. My engine compartment is not sealed whatsoever so I need to force it with a fan. With my new engine cover, I should be able to capture some of the heat and blow it down the side to my legs and feet.

Here's most of my new engine cover. I plan on adding solid aluminum on the open side of the cover. I think (assume) I'll get enough air through the venting on the side and rear of the engine cover.

I decided to make travel easy. I have always had trouble towing the argo through rough terrain. It's not a mod to the argo, but more for the argo! I lifted my trailer! The trailer now sits level with my jeep, and doesn't drag the tongue, or tail.
