  • Registering your AATV in California?

I bought a 1995 max2 from the original owner who only used it on his private land. When I bought it, he knew nothing about a pink slip/title, and there is no evidence that this thing has ever been registered.
So, what are the rules with these things in California? Do they need to be registered? can you register it as a boat? Or do you register it like you would an off road dirtbike or quad? I found the little placard with the serial number, but there is no VIN number.
Not sure how to go about this.
By the way, I hate this state!

if you want to ride on forest or blm land you have to get a green sticker. if you want to use it in eny water you have to get it dual registerd witch is fun time at DMV. and if you want to play at pismo beach it has to have a roll bar new law there because all the razers and rinos, they do see us as atv there, we fall under utv.

haha. yeah, spent 25 minutes on the phone with DMV and they didn't know what the hell they were dealing with. I made an appointment to secure someone for the needed amount of time to get this done. let ya know how it turns out

Here in Colorado, the DMV only handles on highway vehicles, hence you do not get a title for ATV's, Boats, Snowmobiles etc. Thus you do not get a title or pink slip or registration for them. I know it would be a royal pain in the butt to register my stuff if we ever move back to CA where all our family live. the State parks dept handles the green stickers with a flat rate of about $30 a year. you get the Green sticker registration from them but thats all.. Yep, CA is totally screwed up when it comes to the DMV. If you get a chance when you are at the DMV would you ask them how a person would get a title and reg for a boat and ATV moving from Colorado to CA based on the fact there is no title issued by DMV in CO... thanks
