  • The importance of having 2 fire extinguishers

I pulled the spark plug to expell the excess fuel out of my flooded 2 stroke, after a couple of squirts it caught on fire. Ooooops. The first extinguisher in my shop did not work. The second in my garage (with the cars) did. Luckily the fuel valve was turned off, so it was a small amount of fuel. I think if the first one had worked there would not have been any damage. Now I do have to replace some wires, but no body damage. Fiberglass isn't so bad after all.
Moral of the story: I will double the number of extinguishers everywhere.

      Good point there Buggy.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

Garden hoses don't put out gasoline fires very well........the water likes to push the flaming gas around.

i had the same thing happen on a mower a few years ago, and the same fire extinguisher issue. i had to shove 4 other mowers out of the way to get the burning one out of my shop. no damage to anything other than the mower but it could have been a disaster! glad to hear you and the machine are ok.

We have no idea how many times this has happened over the years

If you ground the spark plug lead firmly, like on the end of a small bolt or something, no spark is created. Having many fire extinguishers is an excelent idea though

one time in my shop I was having trouble with my oil furnace, it would not stay ignighted. then it started going whomp whomp whomp then it fricken went kapow and it blew part of my chiminy accross the shop and it puffed out a bunch of black smoke. This was at two in the morning me and my buddy were having a shop night. When the smoke cleared and we figured we were unhurt we both looked like coal miners just eyes and teeth we sure had a good laugh. Wish we had pics.
