I use 1 1/2 tubing on all my cages somewhere in the .072-.090 wall thickness range. (or .063 if it's a diet racer) for the body band, i use the same dimensions as my tubing or a little bigger IE: 1 1/2 tubing, 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 angle iron. depending on how your bars will come down to the body band will dictate what you need. if they are coming straight down then i'd go with the same size as your tubing. if the bars are coming down at an angle, you either need to use larger angle or flatten out the end of the tubing some so that you can get a weld all the way around. in both pics below i used 1 1/2 tubing and 1 1/2 angle. on the hustler the cage is mounted to the side of the machine so the angle didn't matter. on the attex, the cage is mounted to the front and rear of the machine, so i had to flatten the tubing a little to weld it.
I used 1 1/2" .065" tube for the cage, 1 1/4" x 3/16" angle for the band. I also made a front and rear rack as part of the cage using 1" .058". Since the cage limited engine compartment access, I made it so the cage could easily be removed from the band via pins. 6x6_8.jpgDSCN0086.jpgDSCN0084.jpg
