  • Cheap security for your 6x6 and other toys

This past June i had a quad stolen out of my sons truck at his house across town. The quad had my registration (address and stuff) in it. I recieved word on where the frame was and that it was stripped and cut in 3 places... The cops couldn't be bothered so my buddy and i went and got it then invited the cops to do there job...(the cops found plenty of stolen goods)... Now this might piss off the guys that got busted. Even though my garage has an alarm system I still thought they may come snooping around.

I came across these IP cameras that are pretty affordable and thought I may pass them along for others who may want a little added security and not break the bank. These are wireless and at anytime I can view the live feed using my iphone (anywhere I have service) or can also pull them up on any PC on the web... Thay also send me 6 photos via email & video tape when triggered... They are Infared as well... Also the pan and tilt can be done using my phone .

I used an old PC I had for the video to dump into, but you can use your existing PC as long as it is running for video capture.. I realize Costco has a complete system with a DVR ... But my buddy went that route and he found out 4-8 cameras and running the wires was huge job and overkill!... and when his DVR quit after one year he now had 8 worthless cameras as he couldn't buy just the DVR.

Mine were $119 each... and come with included software. here are some sample shots of me "stealing" my Max.. Not a bad deal if you ask me.. Just thought it may be of interest to fellow 6x6'ers and spare them the anger i went through.. Foscam.us - Wireless IP Cameras (steer clear of Ebay Foscams)
and i can't wait to catch them guys snooping around my house..

I picked up a simple remote vehicle alarm system (Made by Bulldog, 802MC) cheap ($30.00) off the i-net and installed it on my boss. I opened it up and replaced the speaker with a relay and regular car horn so when it goes off, it IS heard. It has a simple 2 wire hookup, is compact enough to hide just about anywhere on your ATV and has an iron clad Colt .45 cal backup (Not included with kit) when set off.

It's all just nuts and bolts.

You can also use a motion activated digital photo camera made for the hunters. It's 12v so can run on D size batteries or a car battery, in case of power outage.

This sounds like a good way to go. I had my Argo stolen last April and did not have it insured because it was in a enclosed trailer and a gated fenced yard.
I have since bought a replacement but cannot find a company in Michigan that will insure. Does anyone know of a insurance that covers Argo's?

I am in Indiana & I believe my Conquest is insured with Westbend Ins. I can double check & get you contact info if you want.

My Argo stays in a locked garage & my dogs keep is company at night. I have given security options some thought for when I am out & about. I do like your idea. I was thinking about putting some sort lock on one of the drive chains. I figured that would be easy to install & hide.
