I knew all the videos of Copper Ridge existed somewhere. I'm glad this board finally gets all of them out of storage and into the public realm. It's great to see both my machines and all of the others that we ride with getting put through their paces. This is the only footage I've seen of the my old ST/400. I don't remember it performing well enough to win the mud bug, but I suppose I did make it through pretty quickly. That makes me want to dust the old bugger off and get it out of the shed. It hasn't been started since St. Patricks day....
Here's a short clip of Alan "Whipper" Will's old NATVA video footage. I recognize some of the machines- the modified RIM was the McKay Brother's machine if I remember correctly. Some fun, Huh?
Don
Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.
(6) Attex, a Hustler, a Super Swamp Fox, (2) Tricarts, (3) Tri-sports, a Sno-co trike, 3 Dunecycles, and a Starcraft! ...so far
It gets my adrenaline going every time I watch that RIM come around the corner completely flat with dirt spitting up behind the tires. The last picture I saw of that machine, it was running a liquid cooled twin; I don't know what brand; it looks like a nice big Jap motor with some 40's on back. I wonder if that's what he was running in the vid. The pipes look the same, though. A keen eye will notice the Attex sticker on the back over the "RIM" on the back. It's a shame to see the old racer with a spare tire and mop dropped in the back end. I think I have their number somewhere.... I gotta give those boys a call.
That was awesome but every time I saw them take those bumps, my back began to ache And I love the sticker over the RIM. That's a dedicated fan right there
Jeff, I don't think I've seen this video of yours on here. (This is you right?) I love when you are sliding around in the creek on what appears to be a large rock!
Yeah, that's 'ol Swifty. I filmed him sliding around in the creek that is actually floored by shale bedrock here in Western NY. It's a lot of fun, and you minimize any damage to the stream, since you don't knock up any sediment, leave big ruts, etc. The creeks are cool because the water actually gouges out deep pools in the rock, so you'll be driving along in 8" of water when you drop off into a pool that's several feet deep. His big 4-stroke sounds good in this, doesn't it. Listen to the big ting-ting-ta-ting of the 295 idling away in the middle of the video. Jeff has some videos of it, too, but I don't know if he's posted them anywhere. Come on, Jeff! Let's show 'em what a 35 year old two stroke can do!
Yeah Jeff, quit holding out on us! I bet those random deep water holes are fun. Most of the creeks around here are sandy bottomed and most of the time that means that I am going to be getting stuck
This is the creek by the gas lines in Hamburg. It's accessed by the trail by the bar on Keller Rd. in Eden. (I don't remember the name of the joint...see map below...) I've only been there once, and it was really a beautiful place. There were a couple giant mudholes to paddle around in, and the water got sufficiently deep to swim around for a while. I want to go back again!
Excuse the quality; it's tough to get an attachment down to that size and keep decent quality. Here's a link to the aerial...
For some reason there are errors in the jpg. Hopefully, you'll get the idea from the Local-Live link. Keller Road is at the top, and the trail winds south along the woods from the upper left of the photo....
Mike, I uploaded that photo to the gallery. If you ever can't get it to fit in the attachment, just upload to the gallery and you can link to the thumbnail there.
I think this is the right one? (click for larger pics)
Thanks Mike. I should've known that. That pic will work. It's rare that there are open areas here in WNY that you can ride on. We have lots and lots of space, but everything is (very) privately owned. We're a very litigious bunch, and everyone is afraid of getting sued. It's a shame, really.
We have 7 or 8 dirtbikes and quads go by my house everynight to a bunch of trails. I know that they're not supposed to be there, but I'd love to join them. Ironically, it's the quads and dirtbike folks that are the safest (usually younger folks 13-18, I'd guess) and the idiots in the cars that are more dangerous. Every once in a while, I carefully time a blast across the yard in the R to coincide with a couple younger quad riders going by. It's cool to see their draw hanging open.
