  • Mud flaps?

Or water wings? Not sure what to call them. I noticed several aatv's in the busco beach video with them. YouTube - 6x6 ATVs! I'm talking about the 3-4" strips along the body seams to help prevent water and mud from splashing into the tub. They apear to be made of flexible material, maybe HDPE? They seem to be a good idea and I was wondering about the design, to save me some trial and error. Were different materials tried? Does 3-4" work better than 5-6"?
Best way to attach to the body? Why wrap them around the back more than the front?

Not sure if this stuff will work for your application or not. Skirtboard comes in lots of different thicknesses and widths. Its basically reinforced rubber. I think they use it as a drive belt for the saws in old school lumber mills etc. Check out e-bay link.

The material that is used on the machines @ Busco Beach is rubber belting from a haybaler. It was purchased @ Tractor Supply.

McCoy is right. On mine, I used 4" baler belt for the sides and 7" baler belt for the rear flaps on both the Max II and Max IV. I riveted the wider rear flaps to the smaller side flaps where they met and it has worked out good for me. I just used the stock bolts that hold the two tubs together to hold the belt down. If I remember correctly, Whipper made a metal rail to go under the bolts and sandwich the rubber between that and the body on his. That seems to be a better way of doing it. Either way, it sure does keep things a lot cleaner, especially when you add some wider tires.

If I remember correctly, the baler belt is something like $3.00 a foot for the 4" wide belt at Tractor Supply. In two stores that I have been in, it was stored in the back, so I had to ask for it. They pull it off the roll and cut it to the length you specify.

Here's a picture of the Max IV. The first one is only partially installed but you get the idea.
