  • Submerged log set-up

The area I ride in was logged some years ago. Add to that 2 major hurricanes and put it together in a creek bottom crisscrossed with sloughs and prone to flooding and it's just a certainty that you're gonna get to deal with submerged logs.

One of my favorite riding holes is one that has at least 4 logs and a stump or something (Not sure what it is but I'm not sticking my hands down in there to find out either) that gives a real challenge. The first log you have to go over, points nearly straight at the entry into the hole, you have to be careful not to straddle it, but you HAVE to get over it to get to the next one. Then you have #2 about a 6X6 length ahead, which is about 18" above the surface to the right, angling down to about 12" below the surface on the left. It will slide you over against #3 which lays on top of #2, and is against the bank, which is walled with BRIARS. IF you get on top of #3 you have to finesse your machine slightly around to the right and HURL yourself forward to get over #4 and out over the... ?stump? log? All while floating in at least 4' of water.

It is, as I said , my favorite spot because if I miss ANY one of the maneuvers then I get the biggest challenge of all, getting back out to try again! This is a hole that I could drive around, but where's the fun in that! I thought about getting a set of chains, but if I did, the hole would be easier and therefore less fun! So what set-up do you guys like for submerged logs, swimmers, mudders, or a mix?

I'm not asking what tire is best, I just want to know what setup YOU like in a situation such as this.

me and onlyonce ride in a creek with similar characteristics a lot of submerged logs and the creek is about 4 feet deep and only about as wide as our machine it takes alot of leaning and rocking to get through along with alot of water getting into the machine but it is def one challenging ride especially in the water fall

Wow I was beginning to think I was the only one who had logs to play on.
I thinking about trying a set of chains on the front of the 980, I am told they will help in the mud and climbing out of holes over grass/weeds also. Don't have enough clearance on the 950 with the Mudbugs.

If you check out the videos I posted up ( Search "The Pit 6x6" ) n Youtube.
I'm riding in a swampy flooded field/forest. Its a mix of swamp grass tufts, logs branches and beaver dams that I have to climb over. I have Carlisle AT101/Goodyear Rawhide tires, Mogman has Rawhide IIIs on his Max. The R3s did seem better in some situations including one beaver dam in particular (end of video #1) and climbing out on the far side (not on film). But My Attex outswam him by quite a bit. Not sure if it's machine difference or tires, he has 25" R3s, I have 21" tires on the Wild Wolf. To be fair, the only issue was the muddy bank on the far side, it was really soft and I had NO mud experience when I attacked it. I look forward to getting to try it again.

Brushcutter, the situation you described is the most challenging situation I have been in. I was in a swamp creek with submerged logs and soft and mud. As my max tried to climb over a log the wheels dug down into soft mud up to my tub before I realized it. I had to winch from three different trees and almost burnt my winch up in the process of getting out. It was fun and dangerous. I watched 6x6"s beaver dam video, whooooaaaa! Always best to have another 6x6 or 8x8 when you are playing in difficult situations, you never know!
