  • Mudd Ox vs Avenger (Admiral trans) Comparison

Has anyone shot a video comparing a Mudd Ox to an Argo Avenger with Admiral Transmission? Not trying to start a war just curious about how they stack up and also How that admiral works and makes it perform to the Ox over the older versions of the Avenger..

MightymaxIV posted this one, and there are others in the same thread.

I haven't had the chance to run with an HDI ( I have heard they are a beast) but I do own the 650 Hd with an admiral transmission. The Admiral is a big improvement over my MaxIv's T-20 and everything else I have driven, but nothing can match the instant counter rotation, forward reverse features that the Mudd Ox has. My Hd is light and nimble and can go anywhere as you can see from the videos I have posted. Every machine has advantages and disadvantages. 8x8 has a better ride, the 6x6 is able to get into tighter places. I would ask you to watch the river run videos posted by mudbug and myself and make your own judgements as to what suits your individual needs.

You might want to ask forum members, Martwell, and BW6 what they think because both of them have spent a lot of time around HDI's. One big difference is weight and swimming tires. The new HDI swims like a fish but I understand that Matt is about to release a swimmer tire of his own design for the Mudd Ox, this new tire is supposed to be better than the Argo 25" tire. If this new tire is as good as stated there will probably be members Waiting in line to purchase a set for other non Mudd Ox type machines.

My only experience with hydraulic drive is in an old cushman trackster & my driving exp. with a six wheeler is limited to an older Max playing around our deer camp up in the sierras. Like Dan said, each system has it drawbacks....I'd hazard a guess that if you took each out for a test ride, you'd be amazed at the smooth maneuverability of the Mudd Ox....being able to counter rotate & reverse either side at will is something that you have to experience to appreciate.

Thanks for the replies and information! I want to use it for hunting in woodland areas in Vermont and some huntable swampy areas here in Mass near my house. I want to be able to haul out a deer or two . No one bothers with the big swamps here and the amphibs are intresting..
