    here is a rule of thumb as per the Disston lumbermans handbook.
    this guide is a liitle outdated but still holds up today.

    ice 2 inches thick will bear man on foot

    ice 4 inches thick will bear man on horseback

    ice 6 inches thick will bear logging team with light load

    ice 8 inches thick will bear logging team with heavy load

    ice 10 inches thick will bear 1000lbs per square foot

    this table is for pure sound ice

      If I'm not mistaken, those stats are only accurate if there is water directly under the ice, IE, NO AIRSPACE. If the water freezes on top, then the water level drops under the ice, you're going DOWN

        Ice over moving water will hold Trebmasters Argo....I saw it. I won't be outdone.....so I guess that ice will hold a Max also. LOL

          defintely RD,airspace under the ice and you lose your team and logs.lol
