  • argo vs maxIV

This just an opinion. I've had 3 argos so far and one MAXIV. The max is a lot better in water and as good if not better then the argo. The problem with the max is that the motor is in the back and when you load it to much and try to get out of a creek it sinks. It happen to me twice. also with no low gear I got stuck with a moose in it trying to go over a beaver dam. No problem at the place with a big moose with my argo.
Another problem is that it seems that the max is better to play around but not if you work hard with it. The skid plate is in 2 parts. A big problem because sticks get stuck under and brake the plate.
so max is better to play and argo better to work with ( also more room).
PS: I had a lot of mechanic problem with my max ( jsut unlucky I guess)

I have a max 4 and I have pulled out a lot of Argo's from the mud, but I have had Argo's pull me out also. Dollar for dollar the max is a hell of a lot better. If the argo had the max trany then the argo would be the best. I did install chain oilers on my max and made the bearings waterprof.

I don't know Max's but I'm a little suprised you say they are better in the water. Not sure that I've read that comment here before. Could you expand on that? I just assumed that an Argo swimms better, mostly becouse I think the back 2 tires on the Argo push the most (Higher out of the water). My thinking is that with the engine in the back of the Max, the tires would sit lower in the water, giving you less propulsion.

From the vids I've seen, I think I agree that the Max would be more "fun"

I've also Pulled a lot of Argo's out of the mud, but I did it with an Argo

I sold my 2010 Mudd-Ox to buy the 2011 Argo Frontier because it suites my needs better. From owning the Mudd-OX ,the Argo Frontier, and the Max IV,,the Mudd-Ox is built a whole lot more robust than the Argo is. I would call the Mudd-OX industrial strength.

The old argument about which is better. They are all fine machines. Each has positives and negatives, there is no one perfect machine. All are pretty good in certain respects, but every obstacle is different and when you fiddle with loads, tires, engines, etc. each machine can shine in specifics areas. No need to say one is better than the other. Just enjoy them for what they are.
