Anybody working on an electic/gas/diesel hybrid aatv? It would have either a gas or diesel engine driving a generator to keep some batteries charged up that would feed two electric motors, one for each side of the 6 or 8 wheeler so that you could run each side independant of the other allowing pivot steering and even regenerative braking when going downhill. With the advent of the hybrid car I would think someone could come up with a hybrid aatv pretty easily if they had the necessary equipment and know how. You could have all the advantages of a Mudd-Ox as far as instant manueverability without all the hydraulic hardware. The engine could be mounted anywhere since it is just powering the batteries and could be located for the best weight distribution possible. I guess battery choice would depend on budget, but batteries keep getting better all the time, and this hybrid could even be turned into a plug in type so that the first part of the journey could run on pure electric until the charge got low enough for the engine to kick in. I would definitely be interested in hearing what you think of this type of vehicle and whether anyone has attempted to build one yet. Thanks.
