  • Bearing question???

How loose is to loose??? I took a floor jack and rised up my husler. I would take a good hold of each tire and try to "wiggle" up and down. At the most the tire would have about 1/16" of play. Is this normal?? Do I have some time left before I replace???

I don't know exactly what normal is, but when I put my new ones in there seemed to be little to no play in the axles.

I do know that if you are going to replace the bearings, go with the best quality. JPSwift can help you there. I have been taking mine to the beach, and apparently the bearings I got were not good quality and I will be replacing mine this summer. They have gotten noisy, and when I grease them a gray, silty goo comes out of the seals.

Depending on what bearing you need, your best bet would be to call up Buffalo Bearings 716-874-1721 and tell them the measurements of your bearing. Tell them that Jeff with the 6 wheelers sent you and they will set you up with very high quality bearings at a low price. I've been using their import bearings for years and I have had great luck with them.

Scott, they might not be aware of the orange jump suit, haha. Those tripple sealed ones that I'm running now are the absolute best that they have dealt with from what I heard and they deal with A LOT of bearings. They were a good price too, nearly $10 less and much higher quality than those other ones that some people buy on the net.

            Grease

On my Max IV, When I grease the bearings at the zirk fitting on the outside of the tub, WHAT EXACTLY AM I GREASING?

Does the grease just act as a water seal around the sealed bearing, or is the grease actually entering the sealed bearing?

            Help me.

Theoretically the grease is entering the bearing. The flange should route the grease into the groove in the bearing and then enter the hole to actually go into the bearing.

The only downside is that often the grease never reaches those small holes in the bearing. I am working on a axle and bearing replacement article that should be up in the next day or two. It will have some good pictures of that flange torn apart.

Tires have give & play. Try removing the tire, and wiggle the axle itself. If you get more than a few mm at the end of the axle, that's a sign it's starting to wear! 1/16in is a huge amount of play when you are talking about bearing clearances!
