Sorry about that guys, I didn't realized that the link was to a restricted area, for members only, of the site. This one should work.

The link that bcsteve listed sends you to a restricted sight. Might wanna recheck it.

Alot of good stuff mentioned for the tool kit. I use the ammo box with the bare minimum. The original post had pictures as well as descriptions. One thing I noticed in the pics that he didn't state was the spare chain links. Very important in my book! When I took my boss on maiden beating, I snapped both main drive chains on a hill between two trees. I was royally screwed. Had to humpit home and get my truck to pull it out/home. I also include a 6 link section of chain incase. I also found that if your vehicle has roll pin anywhere on it, they will fall out, or shear when you are at your worst challenge. I keep a good assortment now. I also keep an extra 25ft of cable with hooks and a pulley block. Incase my winch cable is too short. You'd be surprised what/how much you can fit in that ammo box. I use the one from 7.62mm (60 caliber) rounds. Not too big, not too small. And WATERPROOF!

Here's a neat way to carry your emergency tools/first aid kit in a bulletproof and totally waterproof container. I got to figure out where to mount one on my Frontier.

And I talked to the service guy at our Argo shop and he said 80 ft lbs also. Does your manual's say 130 ft lbs?? 80 ft lbs is a lot of torque but 130 sounds like an awful lot of torque to me. Let me know on that for I've been using 80 and it works but after every outing, the right idler chain (think that's what it is), the one where you adjust with the 9/16" wrench is just a wee bit loose.

    Thanks

Silverbullet, you got me curious as well so I pulled out my manual. It is fact 130 ft/lbs they want those big bolts at. I also had to adjust mine a few weeks ago and dindn't notice the recomended torque, maybe I'll got grunt at them a little more just to be safe!

The flare can be used to light your fire, even if the wood is wet!!

My two cents on the emergency kit...

Bring Red Flare, like the police use on the highways when there is an accident, at night they could be usefull tho be seen from the air. The other thing is a lighter, i don't smoke so i always carry one in case we need to make a fire to get warm. The rest of the list is really complete. The only last thing that RI and Argo could put on their machine is a bigger compartment for tools!!!!!

    Emergency Supplies/tools

Didn't mean to revive this old thread but it sure has some useful info in it. Thanks for posting it SRG121. I like your suggestions and for a newbie like me, it really helps. The fuel line, wire connectors and small items were a great help that I don't have in my emergency kit. I can't help but add maybe a small roll of duct tape and/or electrical tape and maybe some fuses that work for your Argo or Max. I ran into a guy on a caribou hunt that had a fuse blow on his ATV 25 miles from his truck. Luckily my buddy had a fuse to give to him so he could start his engine and drive out.

    Tools

I always utilize the tool kit that I put together for the Max IV when I do any maintenance. This allows me to realize what I might be missing in the kit. Obiviously I choose to leave some stuff out and go to the shop to retreive the big stuff. In the end, I know exactly what my tool bag will do. I am suprised at how few tools are actually needed.

I do the same thing with my Harley RoadKing.

The downside is that I end up working on everyone elses machines, but I guess I really do enjoy that too.

Seems like the most prepared have fewer breakdowns.

Yes, this is correct for the Frontier too...
Now, I too was very..uh.. worried about the 130 ft lbs. Which is probably why mine came loose and I could re-tighten the 9/16" bolts with a wrench.
Ok, ok... I'll push it to 130lbs... crap.

Bring a cell phone or a long range walky

Bring a cell phone or a long range portable, two-way radio transceiver.

I do not care how much stuff you bring you still may need to get a hold of some one if you get in a big enough jam

GPS is good to you can you coordinates

Even then you got to think if I needed help how are they going to get to me ?unless they have an AATV a Helicopters may not be able to get threw high trees or find a clearing and ATV doesn’t walk on water like we do you could get your self in a place were no one can get to you in a hurry.

    First aid kit

Make sure your first aid kit is water tight, I had one on my Grizzly and fell off in a big mud hole. Muddy band aids don't work to good. So I got me a old army ammo box , and put a new kit in it. It would be great for a water tight tool kit too. Cougar

I have a milk crate in the back of the response w/ water, air pump, extra cable, fire extinguisher. Then a small cheap toolset, and a runamuk spare. That's what 8x8's are for, hauling stuff around. Until recently it was mostly used for other's needs. Everything has been used that I carry. The spare and FIRE EXTINGUISHER included. You'll have to ask Matt about the deployment of the fire extinguisher
