They're actually not very expensive and parts are pretty easy to source. They're actually a lot cheaper than owning a 4 wheeler. Owning a 6x6 is expensive if you go through Richard's Relics because he sells parts that are not very high quality at a VERY high price. Chain and bearings are easy to find at places like Buffalo Bearing or at your local NAPA, farm supply, or bearing store, engine parts are available at any Briggs, Kohler, Kawasaki, etc dealer for the engine, axles can be made at any machine shop from bulk steel, and transmission parts (if you have a T-20 machine) you can easily get them new from Recreatives Industries or second hand here on the site. So if you look at it this way, it's actually not very expensive to own an AATV, quite opposite of owning a Lambo. My 6 wheelers are actually a cheaper hobby than all my motorcycles."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

I agree with jp, if you are resourceful the operating cost is no more than other off road things. The info on this site has been very helpful for the DIY'er. I have made a big difference in my operating costs by stepping up preventive maintenance and post ride lubrication. I have also learned not to bash into trees, fun but a costly activity.

The first used machine is usually the most expensive. At the time your nee to the hobby and its hard to source parts and you have never tore it apart before. Plus you usually pay more for the first one cause you need it the rest you can happen upon. Once you get the hang of it you can build a nice machine on a poor man's budget, but like anything the sky is the limit to the cost of the hobby. Get a new avenger or two and a nice toterhome to hual it and wow what an expensive hobby.l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

Bearings just get expensive its like $60 an axle for the two bearings thats $360 just in bearings then another $100 for the bearings on the shaft by the tranny in the argo thats $460 wow just for bearings im doing one axle at a time. Now I found a place by me called ACME they have bearings I have to match up but they are only $10 a bearing more than half the price at miller bearing. But the bearing I got was not greasable they were machine bearings but they seem to be working good so im gona go pick up more today now if I could just find some dubble chain somewhere

You should call the guys at Buffalo Bearing. They get very good quality triple lip sealed bearings for our AATV application cheap. (716) 874-1720. If you own an Argo, they tend to be a bit more expensive compared to other machines."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

$60 per axle? wow. i dont know about america but in the uk its only about £22 per axle and you can get bearings for £8.50 each. so if ive done my maths right thats around $34.72 per axle and $13.42 per bearing. try simplybearings.co.uk i dont know what shipping will be like to the us or canada but its usualy only a pound or two for over here.
for chain try searching kobo chain, it can be pretty expensive but its designed for mining and steel works so its going to last a while, it should only take two rolls of chain for a six wheeler, its what used for my magnum and its never run better.Last edited by shizzles2; 03-08-2012, 10:37 AM.
