  • chain maintanence

took the predator out yesterday and there seemed to be quite a bit of noise in the front where the hydro motors are located. When I got back I removed the front floor and found the front chains attached to the drive motors were super slack, ........... So I got out the tools and thanx to 6x6 world I removed one link in each chain and adjusted the tension. Man what a difference a way more positive response to the controls and what a dirty job . Thanx again 6x6 world to make it possible for people to jump in to maintenance with confidence.

I'm betting the chains are actually stretched and worn out. Continued use of worn out chains will also wear out the sprockets. You might want to look at replacing the chains sometime in the near future.

really the machine only has 45 hours I think the were not adjusted right from new. The rest are really good. Is there any way to tell besides the fact that they were loose? Thanx for the heads up.

Just take a bit of math. Count the number of pitches on the chain. If it is a ANSI 60, multiply pitches by 0.75. If it is a ANSI 50, multiply by 0.625. Take that number and measure out the existing chain and if it is off by more then 3%, time to replace.

Well I'll be... I didn't know that! I'll definitely have to file that one for future reference. That's a great little tidbit, I gotta give ya my "learned something new" award for today!
