    Hi, I was hoping to get some replies as to which unit argo HDI or mudd ox diesel would be better for hunting /pleasure riding in the mountains.I would also like to put tracks on it for snow conditions in the winter.I am leaning towards the HDI just for the cost difference.I am new to argos etc.

    Both units have their merits and are more than capable of performing both tasks well,the Argo machine has a long reputation of quality and dealer network and I have owned a number of their machines and happy with them,on the other hand have zero experience with the Mudd Ox other than what I have seen and read here,they look very impressive with features the Argo doesn't offer,and look really well built,for me dealer proximity and the access to parts is the big thing and a forty year plus company that has stayed in the AATV market means a lot.NCT

      Well, I never did get my test rides in a Mudd-Ox, so my vote goes to the Argo. As mentioned, both are capable machines.

        You may want to read this thread and do a search for mud ox on the forum and read and a few others. This thread was posted this afternoon. All manufactureres have their down sides, but mud ox just gets complains from all but one owner who was given tracks to try and was the first to get a 6x6 version. Personally I would get a max iv with adair tracks. For the money and capabilities of the set up, it is probably close to the ultimate setup you can currently buy.
        l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

          I would love to try a Max IV, wish there was a dealer around here.

            After seeing what your "cargo capacity" requirements are? I wouldn't compare them. I'd just put the Max IV in the back of your conquest and head to the cabin.

              After owning a 2010 Mud-Ox and now a 2011 Argo Frontier 6x6 I'd choose the Argo because they have more dealers nation wide.

                Wouldn't that be something, I've hauled a quad like that but not another AATV

                  I've never seen a sailboat on one, but with your girls driving now you need less cargo space per machine and more machines.

                    Hey RD ,thats ok it is interesting to read what other guys think.Say RD did you ever test drive a argo HDI and if so was it the high torque unit or the standard unit.Iwas researching the HDI units with some dealers and was told that there are two HDI's available the standard and a newer version that was called the high torque unit and it was better with tracks and it also solved the transmission over heating problems with the HDI argos

                      A Mudd Ox with a diesel engine is an absolute mule. If you have to do heavy duty work this thing is a beast! Put a set of Adair snow tracks on it and run them year round and you will never get stuck. This is the machine you want to pull everyone else out! You don't have a belt to deal with and almost unlimited power with the diesel engine. On the negetive side the Mudd Ox is heavy and does not swim as well as an Argo HDI. If you are going to haul loads or trailers get the HDI with a low transmission.

                      Neither machines is perfect both have their own plus and minus, I would consider the area I live in and what I wanted the machine for. If you have to do a lot of swimming I would say get the HDI with a set of Adair tracks. If you are going to run in extremely heavy duty conditions and you can afford the Ox go for it!

                        I have driven several now, but they have all been the same. Standard units I believe. Only one was on tracks, and that was only for a few minutes in a parking lot.
                        More friends are getting them, so I would imagine that I will get to run them a bit more this summer.

                            I've never rode in a mudd ox, but they sure look like they could go thru some stuff, no belts to worry about. I do however have an HDI that I have had for exactly 1 payment so far. I have been beating this thing up pretty good so far, and so far so good. You have been doing your homework on the low speed high torque tranny. Mine is standard tranny, and has adair tracks,and don't think you need the low gear tranny just because you run tracks.On the flip side, my next unit will have the low gear tranny just so I can find out for myself what the heck the difference really is. This is my second argo,and I never had any issues with my first one, they are very reliable. Check out some of the argo videos and you will quickly see what they can go thru.

                              I would say the mudd ox cause its a diesel but i'm a diesel freak im putting a diesel in my argo cause i couldnt afford the mudd ox...But the mudd ox has more power and is bigger but i think is better than a argo due to more features a argo is better for small spaces like woods,,,
