How many times have I heard from others that it is darn near impossible to break an axle! I too thought that it was impossible until I notice my Hustler wasn't turning sharply to the left like it is supposed to be. First I thought it was another sheared axle bolt (I had my fair share of sheared axle bolts at Busco this past April), but I check the axle bolt and was still there. I then rode the Hustler with the floor out and checked the rotation of the wheels to the rotation of the axles inside the tub. There it was, low and behold, the axle was moving on the inside of the tub but the tire wasn't moving, and there was a lot of popping. I waited until I got another axle before I tore it down, Thanks to HighRollinMopars, I picked up the axle this past Friday. Here is a pic of the broken axle that split at the axle bolt hole.
P.s. When welding elongated axle holes in the axle and redrilling them out to make a snug fit for the axle bolt,, DO NOT cool the metal down too quickly, like putting it in water or a Busco Beach Pond. This makes the metal (your axle) very brittle and soft.
