  • Things to do on AATV Trips

    Hi everyone

I'm just looking for new ideas on things to do while out in the bush on AATV trips. I don't normally have any problems keeping myself busy, but new ideas are great.
I'm just starting 5 weeks of Vacation, and the first 3 weeks will an Argo Trip. Going for this long means that space is limited, so not a lot of room for kids toys, games, ect.
No doubt I will have to make a couple "Hotshot" trips back to civilization for food/gas ect but for the most part we will stay in the bush (normally I leave the wife and kids out there if I have to run to town for stuff)

My new tracks are not here yet, so I will have someone checking my mail to let me know when they arive. I will definatly make a run to town to pick those up, Can't wait to try them.

Anywho, All ideas welcome. We will probably have 2 Argo's, one with a trailer, and my wife still likes to be pulled through the swamps on her quad

With any luck, we will head out tomorrow, but there are places where I can get service for my phone. If you have any thoughts on stuff to do, that requires any particular items, I could pick up any necessary stuff on one of my town runs.

    Take it easy y'all
    Looking forward to your thoughts

    RD,

Have you ever heard of geocaching????? All yuou need is a GPS (which i assume you have) and access to internet. Log onto geocaching.com and register for free. This is a sport that is worldwide. It is something like a treasure hunt where you get the coords of the net and input them in your GPS and try and find the cache....The cache can be something really small like sewing timble to a gallon bucket with just a piece of paper to sign your name on to trinkets and travel bugs that you can take and move along to another cache....These are hidden on atv trails to park benches under rocks and stumps.

Hope this is of some help....
Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.

we always try to bush whack into some new lakes if time allows.usually fishing and drinking beer takes up a lot of time, although ive never had 5 weeks in a row to burn.maybe you can invite the brazillian volleyball team up for a photo shoot and play a bit of v-ball on your beach.pictures please.

Geocaching, good idea, I will look into that one, Thanks.

I invited the Brazillian Vball Team, but they are booked up solid, maybe next time. Beer and fishing are great, but I'm looking for something new for the kids

        Good start though

dood ill 2nd this one...i geocache all the time! lol when we went to ashtabula last month, i took off for about an hour and went to a couple close by! i had some trackables that dropped off, and then brought some back home! lol Good call Guy Fox!! Wait till he gets hooked and then runs into some "Evil Caches" lol i'm trying to find one now, been there 3 times but still cant locate it. My first evil cache was an actual "outdoor Light Fixture" that i had to pull on to remove it from the terra-cotta-pipe that was in a wall of an old building...i about died when i finally found it. lol i also have a good friend of mine that i made via this site, who makes me geocaching keychains to place inside the caches that i find. also, Caching is usually SUPER kid friendly RD, my 3yr old freakin loves it!! Some caches are big enough for "tradables" which my kid loves. we bought a bunch of goofy stuff to put in when my kid takes stuff out. sometimes he'll get a matchbox car, or a dinosaur, or something of that matter, and then we place stuff back inside in place of what we took! Its cool man, might sound corny, but i will let it be known that, i've seen some really awesome places via geocaching!

Let us knwo if you decide to start caching RD!

I know of people young and old who plan their family vacations around geocaching. It can take you to some amazing areas in your own neighbourhood that you did not know exist. As wagz stated some can be "evil" but fun to find. Some can look like a bolt that is attached to a park bench to water taps that you have to pull out of the wall....You can even get into extreme caching where you have to climb trees to repell down cliffs (i am not that good...)..This is a sport that can be done by the whole family.

As your family is the outdoor type I think they will enjoy it very much.

                  Another great idea
I do have a metal detector, unfortunately there is no gold where we're going
But I can scatter some quarters in the sand and let the girls find treasure

Not that there isn't gold "Around", it's just not where we're going this time,
Here is some gold I've found in the past

My wife is killing me here, I have a Crewcab, longbox with a high top canopy, and a 20 foot trailer. I don't have enough room for all the stuff she wants to take
I don't even want to begin to list everything, so let's just say that I had to fire up my Walk In Cooler to keep the groceries cold for the night. Sigh, I think she's getting worse, not better at this planning stuff.

Take an edible plants book.... It is kind of fun to make a "salad" Unless the kids are too little, you dont want one feeding the other something they think is good. Maybe build a tree house or fort? Nothing would be cooler with dad. Also, find the drawings to make Marsh mellow shooters... take some PVC pipe with you and really little marsh mellows, that should be fun and cheap. what about a small mini bike and build a "trail" to ride on... you should be able to find one cheap.

On one of our walks down the beach last yr, we collected ONLY "rocks with a hole clean through them". We made necklaces and bracelets out of them

Not sure about the live trap thing, but I remember as a kid catching squirrel's with a fishing rod. Whole Peanut tied to the line, lol, once they stuffed it in their mouths they refused to let it go untill you had them reeled in

I caught this little guy last yr, with my hands

Grab some cheap snorkling kits for everyone, snorkling in rivers can be addictive.

Nothing is more fun than having the troops "ambush mom". The best part is my dog will ALWAYS clean up the mess.... so there is really no hassle! If there are more kids out there, you may want to have spares the more there are the more fun it is. Bring model paint and have the kids paint their guns... that would be a good rainy day project!

Dumb question, but do you have a good old tire swing out there?
